All Star Weekend
THEY BETTER NOT GET RID OF THE TOURNAMENT FORMAT. THAT SHIT WAS FIRE!
Everything else was bullshit, BUT THE BASKETBALL WAS GOOD outside of the one finals game with a weird huck and chuck stretch. (This is the shit everyone keeps complaining about because that's the brand of basketball the largest market and it's surrounding teams play. Other big markets? No, they actually play good basketball. Houston is playing great basteball tbh. Kind of don't like it, but I respect the fuck out of it. Dallas somehow refuses to completely shut down... NYC, Miami, etc.)
NBA, we gotta talk. I watch basketball because I love basketball. I'm invested in your players, in your teams, and in the storylines that perforate throughout. Inside the NBA is cool and all, but I watch that because the basketball is done for the day and they are talking basketball which I am still interested in. I don't watch the NBA to watch Inside the NBA. An entire weekend takeover for a show half your audience doesn't like is weird.
The concert stuff felt weird, but I still enjoyed it. It looked cramped af inside that arena, but it was cool seeing the culture that lives in the Bay. However, I don't need that much Bay culture. I don't live there. Give them their roses, highlight their artists, then get the tf out the way. But, the E-40/Saweetie concert should have been the intro. Who was the artist in the intro btw? I was feelin him until the 3rd song. You played from 7:10-7:35 to start an event that was scheduled for tip off at 7:05. Went on too long too. Was Red Panda not returning calls? I know she was retiring, but for the ASG?!?
Kevin Hart is a no. Who TF thought him talking DURING THE GAME AND DIRECTLY AT PLAYERS was a bright idea? NEVER let that person make decisions ever again. That was the worst commentary I have ever seen. I take back any inflammatory remarks I have said about TV teams and commentators because I have a new bar to judge everyone by. "At least they aren't Kevin Hart talking directly to the players during the game." Incredible.
IDK why it needs to be said, but during a weekend long celebration about the NBA and basketball and all the people that make this sport fun and entertaining, fitting everything not basketball into it really just makes the product worse. I'd rather watch them go back to not trying than what we saw inbetween the good basketball as players waited up to 20 minutes to finish the last 10 pts in a 40 pt game. It's just dumb how this was set out.
So, use the same format for the game but lets cut 85% of the non-basketball stuff. If that leaves 2 hours for programming and we're done, so be it. It's better than 4 hours of shit.
